Unlike most oil-in-water analyzers, the Kemtrak FL007 can simultaneously measure both the fluorescence and the turbidity of a sample. This is useful because combining fluorescence and turbidity measurements assures reliable continuous monitoring of oil and hydrocarbon contamination in water.
The fluorescence measurement is used to monitor the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons while a dual turbidity measurement monitors aliphatic oils in the stream.

KEMTRAK FL007 OIL-IN-WATER ANALYZER
The Kemtrak FL007 is a fiber optic-based oil-in-water analyzer. It uses a unique combined fluorescence and turbidity measurement technique to assure reliable continuous monitoring of oil and hydrocarbon contamination in water, whether aromatic or aliphatic in nature. The Kemtrak FL007 utilizes a robust industrial backscatter probe with a sapphire window in a Ø12mm PG13.5 “pH sensor style” pattern for ease of installation into pipes and vessels through existing ports/adapters.
Oils rich in aromatic content fluoresce when illuminated with ultraviolet light, and the intensity of this fluorescence depends on the quantity and characteristics of the polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) being monitored. Both free oil and dispersed oil can be measured for a total oil-in-water measurement, while solids and gas bubbles are essentially ignored. Oils that fluoresce include fuel oil, crude oil, hydraulic oil and transformer oil.
For oils with a low water solubility and for those that do not fluoresce, the FL007 also uses a turbidity measurement technique to monitor oil content. The FL007's unique dual measurement technique provides a repeatable and high confidence measurement/detection of oil in water when deployed in the field.
