KEMTRAK TC007 TURBIDIMETER/SOLIDS CONCENTRATION MONITOR

Turbidity measurement is important in a wide variety of industries. With many liquid processes, maintaining turbidity or solids concentration levels are a key step and reliable turbidity measurement is vital for process control and quality. Through the Kemtrak TC007 turbidimeter platform, South Fork Instruments provides solutions to accurately measure and report liquid turbidity, clarity and solids concentration in-line, and in real time.

THE TC007 TURBIDIMETER MEASURES HAZE, PARTICULATE AND SOLIDS IN LIQUIDS.

The Kemtrak TC007 is an easy to operate industrial process fiber optic turbidimeter designed to accurately measure the concentration of particulates in a flowing stream. Long-life solid-state LED lamps and precision fiber optics are used to provide drift and noise free measurement.

The TC007 is configured for each application with one of three measurement modes – Ratio, Attenuation, and Back Scatter. Selection is based upon the range of turbidity to be measured. Ratio is used for “clean” applications with turbidity levels up to around 1000 NTU. Attenuation Mode is used where turbidity levels are still relatively low but exceed Ratio capability. There are two Backscatter options available – SCAT for low solids concentration measurement and NIR Back Scatter for high solids concentration.

Each TC007 automatically controls light energy output from its light source at the optimum level for maximum measurement performance. Constant checking of the light output and the dark current through the photodetector components ensures drift free measurement over long periods of time without compromising sensitivity.

All systems are calibrated using traceable turbidity standards. Calibration and correlation to process is aided on site using the built-in QuickCal function that allows calibration against liquid/hard media standards or process samples to be easily achieved.

Ratio Mode

Ratio mode is the most sensitive measurement method and utilizes a flow through measurement cell with three optical windows, two diametrically opposite for attenuation measurement and one at 90° for side scattered light detection. Turbidity measurement range is 0.012 to 1000 NTU. A proprietary algorithm mathematically combines the attenuated and scattered light signals to accurately report the turbidity level in the process stream while providing automatic compensation for optical window fouling to ensure continued, reliable operation. TC007 units set up to operate in ratio mode closely correlate to off line turbidity measurements in plant QC labs etc.

90° side scatter ratio is a nephelometric method compliant to ISO7027:1999. The advantage of ratio measurement over simple 90° side scatter detection is that ratio measurement allows automatic compensation for window fouling, making the measurement more reliable and requiring much less maintenance.

Attenuated Mode
Attenuated mode is used for mid-range turbidity measurements up to ~10000 NTU and uses a flow through measurement cell with two optical windows. Light is passed through the fluid flowing through the measurement cell from one window to the other. As the amount of particulate in the stream increases, the amount of light energy crossing the flowing stream and being returned to the analyzer is reduced.

Back Scatter
Back Scatter mode is used for very high turbidity and common solids concentration measurements up to ~20%. Measurement is made using a single window back scatter probe. Light shines into the process and the close proximity of particulate/solids passing over the window surface causes scattering, with some of the energy returning through the window and back to the analyzer.

NIR Back Scatter
NIR Back Scatter mode analyzers operate in exactly the same way as Back Scatter Mode analyzers with the exception that they have a longer wavelength of operation. This longer wavelength provides a much higher level of solids measurement, even in dark backgrounds.

TC007 measurement cells and probes are maintenance-free and have scratch-resistant sapphire windows. Cells and probes connected to the TC007 analyzer with fiber optic cables and without onboard electrical or electronic components, are suitable for hazardous area installation.

QUICKCAL ATTN

QuickCal Attn provides a means by which liquid samples or hard absorbance media can be inserted into the light path of a TC007-ATTN turbidimeter to check response and confirm calibration of the analyzer. The insertion accessory accommodates standard 10mm OPL cuvettes and is installed permanently on the turbidimeters’ optical measurement cell (alternatively, there is a standalone version). Cuvettes containing liquids of verified turbidity/solids content are inserted into the accessory to allow verification and calibration of the instrument. A set of traceable hard media absorbance filters are available as an optional extra.

QUICKCAL CALCAPS

Kemtrak CalCaps a provide a foolproof method of quickly and easily validating the calibration of TC007-SCAT/NIR-SCAT turbidity/solids analyzers using 12mm diameter pH probe style or Triclamp® flanged insertion back scatter probes.
